Hot for 2020 Film/TV Talent: Paul Mescal
Roe McDermott looks at the Irish film and TV talent set for a huge 2020.
The multi-talented Paul Mescal could have been successful in several different arenas, including sports, having played under-21 football for Kildare. But his attention was captured by the stage, ever since he got his first role playing the Phantom in Phantom Of The Opera in his school musical. Since then, he’s amassed some fantastic theatre roles, appearing in Louise O’Neill’s Asking For It in the Abbey, The Plough And The Stars in the Lyric Hammersmith, and The Great Gatsby in the Gate. But this talented 23-year-old is about to go stratospheric with his first small-screen role in Lenny Abrahamson’s hotly anticipated TV adaptation of Sally Rooney’s book Normal People.
