KNEECAP support Catherine Connolly for president
"Vote Connolly....cause we can't," said KNEECAP.
KNEECAP have shown their support for presidential candidate Catherine Connolly, saying "vote Connolly....cause we can't."
The Belfast rap trio's Instagram post read "vótáil Connolly" in their signature white and green text.
Connolly's account responded, commenting "GRMMA" ["Go raibh míle maith agaibh"].
KNEECAP's members, as Irish citizens living in the North, are unable to vote in the upcoming presidential election.
Last week, Stormont’s deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly argued that giving Irish presidential election voting rights to citizens in the North of Ireland would be overstepping.
“It’s the difference between a political reality and a political aspiration," she said.
"Northern Ireland remains entirely within the United Kingdom… and that is the first and key principle of the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement, and that should be reflected and respected.”
Sinn Féin First Minister Michelle O’Neill argued that not extending voting rights is a “huge democratic deficit”.
“I, as an Irish citizen living in the north, could stand for the position, but cannot vote in that election," she said.
The presidential election is set to take pace on Friday, October 24.
