Evening Train is coming to the Everyman Theatre in Cork
The musical is a much-anticipated adaption of Mick Flannery's acclaimed debut album, Evening Train.
A new musical, Evening Train, inspired by the Mick Flannery (pictured) album of the same name, which was originally released in 2007, will have its opening night in the Southern capital, on June 14.
The musical will be a part of the Cork Midsummer Festival 2019 and will debut at The Everyman Theatre in Cork.
A graduate of Coláiste Stiofáin Naofa in Cork, Mick Flannery has gone on to release another four albums so far: White Lies (2008); Red to Blue (2012), which went to No.1 in Ireland; By The Rule (2014), which was also a No.1 hit; and I Owe You (2016).
The lyrics and music of Flannery's acclaimed debut Evening Train have been interwoven into a stage adaptation, the book for which was written by Ursula Rani Sarma. The production is directed by Annabelle Comyn. Between them, they have transformed Evening Train into a fully-fledged musical. With luck, it might end up on Broadway!
The action is set in West Cork. "Grace dreams of a new life far away from here," we are told, "as she waits for Luther. He’s late. Again. Elsewhere in town, bartender Frank surrenders yet another paycheck to cover his reckless brother’s gambling debts. Luther promises Grace that by Christmas, he’ll have made enough money to get them out of here. Before long, a high stakes game is underway, in which everyone is a player, whether they like it or not."
Evening Train will run for eleven days, from Thursday 13 June to Sunday 23 June, with doors at 7.30 every evening.
