It's all happening on June 12 in The Temple Bar pub!
Hot Press is delighted to come on board as the official print partner for well-known Dublin musician Dave Browne’s attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest ever guitar-playing session.
Kicking off at 4pm on Sunday June 12 in the Temple Bar pub – we can heartily recommend their oysters! – the former Little Sister Sage man will have to play for 101 hours to wrestle the record away from its present Argentinian holder.
“I’m incredibly excited to be taking on this challenge,” Dave enthuses. “It’s been something that I’ve been planning to do for years now and I feel as though I’m finally ready for it! Playing guitar comes really naturally to me but I have to say, staying awake is going to be the biggest challenge.
“The longest guitar session I’ve played to date is three days so this is going to require a serious amount of mental endurance to get through over 100 hours with no sleep. I’m approaching it like a marathon for my mind and I’ve also been working out physically with a personal trainer. For me, having everyone around keeping me motivated and alert will really help so having the support on stage is important.”
Dave, who’s traded licks down through the years with the likes of The Commitments, Ronnie Drew, John Spillane, Terry Woods, Philip Chevron and Spider Stacey, will be joined over the four-days by all sorts of musical friends and admirers including Kíla’s Colm O Snodaigh and Tarantella Fall. For details of who’ll be playing when see the regular hotpress.com updates and www.facebook.com/TheTempleBarPub.
There’s also a treat in store on Sunday for Thin Lizzy fans with Dave playing a selection of Philo classics, and Philomena Lynott in the next-door Temple Bar Trading Company shop between noon and 2pm signing copies of My Boy. With the curtain coming down that day on the Philip Lynott Exhibition in the Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre, there are likely to be a fair few pints of the black stuff sunk in his honour!
