We've had some legends in our festival tent before, but none that have penned as many smash hits as the Chic mainman.
With the greatest respect to Kasabian, Crystal Castles and Primal Scream who also played headlining blinders, the Forbidden Fruit honours went to Nile Rodgers & Co. who were so damn funky they even got The Edge and Shane MacGowan strutting their stuff.
Despite having a 5am flight to catch, Nile delayed his IMMA departure in order to meet, as he put it, “200 of my very close Irish friends” in the Hot Press Speakeasy.
During the course of an extraordinary interview and Q+A, he waxed lyrical about pals Michael Jackson, Madonna, Diana Ross, David Bowie, Johnny Marr, Janelle Monae, Avicci, U2 and Daft Punk; given out yards about about Ryanair; considered the wisdom of Linda Martin covering ‘Get Lucky’ and presided over a group Speakeasy hug.
If you didn’t manage to squeeze into the tent, here’s his appearance in full…
