One of the most exciting new artists on the Dublin music scene, Soulé will join Booka Brass and BARQ for a very special show at The Sugar Club, tomorrow, January 26.
“This will genuinely be my first time even seeing a brass band live,” Soulé tells us, brimming with excitement. “So I’m really looking forward to this collaboration. It’s going to be a mad operation trying to get everyone on stage but I’m just so excited I have the opportunity to be part of this event. It’s going to be one of my highlights of the year.”
Layering urban-mined electronic beats over a musical style that owes as much to hip-hop artists like Kendrick Lamar as it does to soul pioneers like Nina Simone, Soulé’s first ever gig of this nature sees her as a wonderful complement to two more seasoned acts.
Soulé reflects on the unique collaborative nature of this event, bringing agro-soul and urban electronic together with a brass band, in a country which has traditionally been seen as a place for folk and rock bands.
“Since I came onto the scene, I’ve become aware of how diverse music has become in this country. We’re all starting to appreciate that diversity more. There’s room now for agro-soul bands and brass bands and urban electronic acts like myself.”
