The return of the acclaimed dream-pop outfit.
A handful of years since they brought the classic Deserter's Songs to Ireland and a full seven years since they last released an album, Mercury Rev hit us with a double whammy of good news.
The Buffalo band will release their new LP, entitled The Light In You, on September 18. That's the cover up there ^ .
To whet your appetite ahead of that, here's a brand new track, 'The Queen Of Swans':
Hitting the promotional trail in Europe after the release, they'll swing by Dublin this winter. Catch them in The Button Factory on Sunday November 22. Tickets go on sale next Monday at 9am from usual outlets.
The Light In You will apparently focus on a particularly turbulent era in the lives of Grasshopper and fellow co-founder Jonathan Donahue, of calamities both personal and physical, but also rebirths and real births (Grasshopper became a father for the first time in 2014). There's a reason for the seven-year gap since the band's last album, Snowflake Midnight.
“It was one of those otherworldly life sequences, when everything you think is solid turns molten,” explains Jonathan. “But also, when something is worth saying, it can take a long time to say it, rather than just blurt it out.”
As well as The Light In You being the first Mercury Rev album with Bella Union, it’s also the first with only Jonathan and Grasshopper at the controls,
