R.S.A.G. win first Sony Ericsson Raw Sessions heat

After the totting up of votes – there were thousands of the blighters – the first heat of the Sony Ericsson Raw Sessions was won by Kilkenny’s very fine Rarely Seen Above Ground...

...(we prefer the full majesty of their name rather than the abbreviation).

They fended off stiff competition from Sweet Jane who incidentally are looking for a new drummer – contact deadflowerrecords@gmail.com if you’re of a Velvet Underground/Mary Chain-ish disposition.

R.S.A.G. (it is easier to type!) now get to record and mix an original song in Grouse Lodge Studios, which in the past has hosted the likes of Manic Street Preachers, Snow Patrol, Bloc Party and Michael Jackson.

Letting the chat out of the bag!

It’s Christmas – which means it’s time for the yuletide institution that is the Hot Press Summit. Donning novelty Santa hats and wrapping themselves in tinsel, this year’s round tablers got stuck into the financial crisis, listed their 2010 highlights, musical and otherwise, and shared stories about being thrown in jail on the US-Mexico border, performing to lots of drugged up French teenagers and hanging out backstage with heavy metal gods.

What A Beautiful Noise

Kilkenny boy Jeremy Hickey's really been living up to his 'Rarely Seen Above Ground' acronym over the last 12 months by keeping his multi-talented head firmly out of sight. From upcoming second album Be It Right Or Wrong, 'The Roamer' is a gutsy departure for the solo sticksman who's allowed his own trembling vocals to take centre stage, steering him to an altogether mellower head-space.
