Neil Hannon & Thomas Walsh make Irish cricket record
The Divine Comedy and Pugwash mainmen team up again in the studio
They told Hot Press last year they were thinking about it, and now it’s happening! Yup, The Duckworth-Lewis Method, a.k.a. Neil Hannon and Pugwash’s Thomas Walsh, are making the first Irish concept album about cricket, which is being released to coincide with the England vs. Australia Ashes series in July. Far from being a whimsical self-indulgence, the two songs we’ve heard, ‘Gentleman Player’ and ‘Age Of Revolution’ are on a par with anything these veritable pop genii have previously come up with.
In case you're wondering, the Duckworth-Lewis Method is a mathematical way of calculating the target score for the team batting second in a one-day or Twenty-20 cricket match that's been interrupted by inclement weather.
