Your Band At Castlepalooza winners announced!

Grand Pocket Orchestra and Joe Echo will be making the trip to Charleville Castle, Co. Offaly, courtesy of the Hot Press 'Your Band At Castlepalooza' competition.

The Hot Press Newsdesk, 24 Jul 2008

Of the many unsigned artists who submitted a song by CD or Mp3, here we have the creme de la creme. Dublin 4-piece Grand Pocket Orchestra trade in a distinctive 'Pavement meets Liza Minnelli' brand of indie, while singer-songwriter Joe Echo, AKA Ciaran Gribbin, has won massive acclaim left, right, centre – and Gary Lightbody.

They join Fight Like Apes, The Parlotones, The Flaws, Kormac (live), Mystery Jets and Republic of Loose DJ sets, and a whole galaxy of Irish and international stars. The festival coincides nicely with the August Bank Holiday (August 2-3).

The 'Your Band At Castlepalooza' competition was set up to help the best of Irish unsigned talent get one more rung up the ladder. Mission accomplished.

Grand Pocket Orchestra, live at Whelan's

Our headliners Grand Pocket Orchestra, if you didn’t already know, are a mad scientist of a band. Pulling out the xylophone and the melodica almost as frequently as the guitar, they resemble a great many things, one of them being a group of Toymaster employees hepped up on caffeine pills.
