Irish singer Tara Blaze has set UK radio buzzing with her debut single.
Tara's album has been confirmed for February release.
Entitled Dancing On Tables Barefoot, it's already causing a flurry of excitement in the UK, where Blaize has been doing a series of showcases for select media.
"We did a show, mainly for radio, with a string quartet, drums, a stand-up bass and Anto Drennan on guitar," manager John Hughes tells Hotpress. "It was scary stuff, because so much can go wrong in a situation like that – but Tara was magnificent. Her singing was wonderful and the reaction was fantastic."
The debut single from the album, 'Fool For Love', has already taken industry observers by surprise, being C-listed by the highly influential BBC Radio 2, and played by both Terry Wogan and Jonathan Ross.
"There have been comparisons with Kate Bush and Joni Mitchell," Hughes adds. "which is an indication that people recognise that we are talking about a serious artist here. Apart from the BBC, Radio London and the Daily Mail have picked on Tara, we got Tipsheet and 'Record of the Day' – so the interest is really building."
Blaze, a Hotpress tip for the top at the beginning of 2004, was formerly the singer with the Dublin band Kaydee, who were signed to EMI during the mid-90s and is also the featured vocalist on John Hughes own critically acclaimed album Wild Ocean, released before Christmas in Ireland and the UK.
Dancing On Tables Barefoot, which is released on the Spokes label, will be available through Pinnacle in the UK and RMG in Ireland.
Tara Blaize isn't the only Irish artist being championed by BBC Radio 2, with Bap Kennedy's 'Rock And Roll Heaven' and Hal's 'What A Lovely Dance' singles both making it onto their B-list. The former has also been getting rave reviews for The Big Picture, his new album which is due in February and finds the Belfast man dueting with Shane MacGowan on a track called 'On The Mighty Ocean Alcohol'
