This interview with the new Taoiseach will be Browne’s second to last appearance on TV3, with his final show airing Thursday night.
TV3’s Vincent Browne announced his retirement from the network earlier this summer, after a decade in the business. With his final show to premiere tomorrow night, Thursday July 27, Browne will still get another high-profile interview tonight, with the new Taoiseach Leo Varadkar. Browne plans to discuss Varadkar’s ambitions for his time in office, Brexit concerns, and the meaning behind Varadkar’s promise to work on behalf of the people “who get up early in the morning”.
It’s been seven years now since Browne interviewed a Taoiseach, the last being Brian Cowen back in 2010 right after news of the IMF bailout first came to light. Browne didn’t go easy on Cowen during the interview, which you can watch again below.
Edna Kenny had famously refused the opportunity to come on Browne’s show after Browne ended one of his shows with the suggestion that Kenny “lock himself in a dark room with a gun and a bottle of whiskey”. Browne later apologised, but still, Kenny refused the interview. It was one of the more controversial statements from Browne in a feud between him and Kenny that has reportedly existed for much of their careers.
The interview with Varadkar will premiere tonight, Wednesday July 26, with Browne’s final show to air Thursday at 11pm.
