Thin Lizzy rock Dublin's Olympia!
The rockers rounded off their European tour in style last night with a blistering hometown show
The Ricky Warwick-fronted outfit, which boasts Lizzy stalwarts Scott Gorham [pictured by Mark Nixon], Brian Downey and Darren Wharton plus Def Leppard's Vivian Campbell and Marco Mendoza of Whitesnake and Dolores O'Riordan touring band fame, delivered a high octane belter of a set, in a different league to the recent Lizzy guises.
Kicking off with live fave 'Are You Ready?' the troupe blasted through a selection of hits with impeccable aplomb. Warwick proved himself a more-than capable frontman, his vocal prowess, guitar skills and unbridled enthusiasm a perfect addition to the line-up.
Set highlights included… well everything actually… but if a gun was put to our heads we’d have to mention a spine-tingling ‘Still In Love With You’ with Warwick and Wharton sharing singing duties, an eardrum-shattering ‘Emerald’, Brian Downey’s brain-melting skills on ‘Sha La La’ and a raucous ‘Boys Are Back in Town’ featuring Joe Elliott on vocals. More please!
Afterwards, Team Hot Press repaired to Lillie's Bordello where Joe was among the Lizzy friends and admirers singing the current line-up's praises. The band have gigs scheduled until the end of 2012, so they're definitely in it for the long haul.
We'll have more on the show, and indeed on Thin Lizzy and Phil Lynott, in our upcoming Lizzy special edition of Hot Press, out next Thursday, February 24. Hot Press will also host an exciting new exhibition to honour Lynott, in Dublin next month. See [link]www.philiplynottexhibition.com[/link] for more!
