The Santa Monica indie rock band is set to tour the UK this summer, and will stop at Whelan's Thursday on August 24. Joining them is Rock and Roll Hall of Fame drummer Clem Burke of Blondie, who has been touring with The Tearaways for the past two years.
The band, which fuses their California sound with that of the British Invasion for a universally appealing pop/rock sound, has been one of Santa Barbara's foremost local acts since its humble 1981 beginnings. Decades later, The Tearaways are still tearing it up, having released two albums and a string of singles in the past five years.
Their latest record, Esquire, which launched this year, has taken The Tearaways to new heights. They have recently performed on NBC, CBS, FOX, ABC, Tribune, and The Arsenio Hall Show, and backed such acts as The Archies, Badfinger, and Millie Courtney.
They band has also built up quite the following, drawing such fans as Tom Hanks, radio DJs Dee Jay Rodney Binhenheimer, Rodney on The Roq, Mike Rogers, and JoJo Wright, comedians Tom Green and Carrie Keagan, and talk show host Piers Morgan, who calls The Tearaways "a force to be reckoned with."
