They developed an app that continually plays an artist
It can’t last very long but one band has found a way to force Spotify into giving more money to artists. New York based band Ohm & Sport developed an app called Eternify which continually plays 30-second clips from songs on the streaming service.
That’s the minimum amount of time for Spotify to conside a play a ‘listen’ and pay the artist the $0.006 it gives out per stream. Running the app for an hour will give the artist about one dollar. It’s still not going to make them rich but it’s much more than Spotify are used to paying.

And obviously, they’re not too happy about it. They told the BBC that they are looking into whether the app violates their terms of service. And if it doesn’t those terms will probably be changed quickly to make sure it does because if Eternify goes mainstream it could seriously damage Spotify.
