His other famous charges, Blue Öyster Cult, finally make their Irish bow on Thursday
Hot Press is saddened to hear that music industry legend Sandy Pearlman has died in the States. The 72-year-old had been seriously ill since suffering a cerebral hemorrhage shortly before Christmas.
Having produced Blue Öyster Cult’s breakthrough 1976 album Agents Of Fortune, which included ‘(‘Don’t Fear) The Reaper’, Pearlman helped the Clash broaden out their sound on their sophomore 1978 outing, Give ‘Em Enough Rope.
With a CV that also includes The Dictators, Black Sabbath, Dream Syndicate and Pavlov’s Dog, Pearlman defiantly stayed away from the mainstream and was constantly embarking on new sonic adventures.
As fate would have it, Blue Öyster Cult finally get to make their Irish debut on Thursday in the Dublin Academy, a gig that’s sure now to have an extra resonance.
Breaking the news on Facebook, his friend Robert Duncan says: “Sandy Pearlman, poet, writer, songwriter, producer, manager, professor, polymath, visionary, passed peacefully, surrounded by love, at 12:30 am, July 26, 2016, in Marin County, California. A celebration of his exceptional life will be announced later.”
