This Thursday sees the artist also known as Jeremy Hickey teaming up with HamsandwicH in the eagerly awaited second instalment of the unique collaboration series; we caught up with the scinitillating sticksman to see how preparations are going
Thursday sees the second renewal of Bow Street Sessions, brought to you by Jameson and Hot Press, roar into life.
Following the opening event which saw Hermitage Green and Trinity Ensemble whipping up a D7 storm, this week will see another pair of top Irish acts combining, collaborating and creating in the scenic surrounds of the Old Jameson Distillery.
Chart-toppers HamsandwicH will be joined by R.S.A.G. on what promises to be a thrilling evening, and the star sticksman - known to his nearest and dearest as Jeremy Hickey - has told us how eager he is to take the stage.
"We did a rehearsal there a few weeks ago," he revealed. "Because the HamsandwicH guys are so good, it worked straight away. I’ve seen them play a few times, and had a bit of a feel for their style - and anyway, they can really lend themselves to a jam."
The two acts have crossed paths before - first meeting in 2010, when they were both doing SXSW in Texas - but have never before shared a stage. Jeremy, though, is hardly a stranger to collaboration; while a solo performer of serious repute, he's also been behind the kit for Jerry Fish, Justice's Xavier de Rosnay and any number of others.
"Over the last couple of years, I’ve been doing more and more collaboration - and actually, the more I do the more I like it. It’s becoming a far bigger part of what I do. It’s nice to play with different people. You get a break from doing your own thing, but you also come back more inspired, in a little bit of a new headspace."
Unfortunately for those looking for secrets ahead of the gig, Jezza could make a decent poker player and is in no mood to give much away. On the other hand, Hot Press has been swotting up on its jiu jitsu, so we were able to twist his arm to give us one or two clues of what awaits.
"There’s a couple of generations covered; a soul song that we’re going to do, and a dance classic as well. We might even practice another song on the day of the gig..."
Well, expecting the unexpected is the name of the game!
