The National College of Art and Design (NCAD) has ) issued a call for applications for the first Creative Arts Summer School, which will take place in Dublin from Monday, 25th to Friday, 29 June 2018.
Funded by the Department of Education and Skills’ Progression for Access to Higher Education (PATH) fund, the summer school is a collaboration between NCAD, Trinity College Dublin, Marino Institute of Education, UCD, and IADT.
The initiative seeks to raise awareness of the higher education opportunities in the creative arts in Dublin, and the five colleges will offer workshops in art, design, fashion, animation, dance, TV & broadcasting, portfolio preparation, 3D design, writing and illustration, and performance.
The deadline for applications is on Friday, 8th June. Free lunches, course materials and transport between the colleges will be provided.Operated through the Access Services in the participating colleges, the summer school encourages applications from those currently under-represented in the colleges, with priority given to applicants who meet one of the following criteria:
· Individuals who have completed FETAC & PLC courses;
· Individuals from lower socio-economic backgrounds or a community from where there is a low progression to further or higher education;
· Members of the Traveller community;
· People with disabilities;

· Mature applications;
· Lone parents;
· Individuals who attended DEIS brand schools.
Commenting on the summer school, Director of NCAD, Sarah Glennie said: “We are delighted to participate in this wonderful initiative, which offers those interested in pursuing a career in the creative industries the chance to meet like-minded people and try out different artforms across the five colleges in an exploratory and fun way.
“Participants will have the opportunity to spend one day on each campus, partake in two creative arts workshops every day and find out about application processes, entry requirements, support services and career opportunities.
"We encourage all those thinking about studying the creative arts to submit their application online by Friday, 8th June.”
