The Antrim man has had his say on the big issue facing the UK electorate.
Liam Neeson has taken his side in the Brexit vote. The Antrim born actor, who played Michael Collins in the eponymous Neil Jordan movie, has said that both Northern Ireland and the Republic would suffer if the UK voted to leave the EU. "A UK exit would have the worst ramifications for the island of Ireland," he said.
Speaking in a statement, released to AFP today, the Schindler's List star added that, "economically, it would be a step backwards." Neeson also warned that a Leave vote would undo the progress achieved so far in the peace process in Northern Ireland. "It would be truly a shame to sacrifice all the progress that has been made by the peace process regarding border controls," he reflected.
Voters in the UK will go the polls tomorrow, Thursday June 24, to vote on whether or not the UK should stay a member of the European Union.
Numerous celebrities have spoken out for the Remain vote, including David Beckham and his wife Victoria, Stephen Hawking and Bob Geldof. If the UK does leave the EU, the Northern Ireland border with the Republic of Ireland will be the only land border between the non-EU UK and the EU – which will undoubtedly lead to huge issues in relation security and control.
"There is strength in unity," Neeson said way way of conclusion. "A BREXIT vote will make us weak. I urge you to go out and vote to remain in the EU."
