To commemorate the 45th anniversary of Jimi Hendrix playing at the festival, organisers have announced plans to attempt to break world record.
45 years after Hendrix appeared at the festival, organisers have announced plans to attempt to break the world record for the most amount of people wearing masks at the same time to commemorate the legendary guitarist.
The festival which is due to take place this weekend June 11-14, will see those attending the event don Jimi Hendrix masks at the main stage at 3:30pm on Saturday 13 June. The festival which will be headlined by Blur, Fleetwood Mac, The Black Keys and The Prodigy is indebted to Hendrix's performance there in 1970 which attracted 500,000 visitors to the island.
According to festival organiser John Giddings:"Jimi’s impact on the island and to popular music cannot be underestimated. His inspiration lives on today and is present each year in the artists performing this year. We wanted to celebrate the 45th anniversary by doing something fun with everyone at the festival this year. By buying a Jimi mask people can not only take part in this special celebration but also help raise money for our partner charity WellChild."
