Son of Princess Diana follows in the footsteps of her HIV activism
Prince Harry and Sir Elton John spoke at the International AIDS Conference in South Africa.
The two are long-term activists on this health issue. Prince Harry's charity Sentebale has aimed to support Lesotho children suffering from the HIV/AIDS epidemic since 2006, and the Elton John AIDS Foundation has raised over $350 million since 1992.
John noted that “Today, HIV/AIDS is a treatable disease and no longer the death sentence it was 10 years ago, but we cannot grow complacent in our fight to eradicate it".
Prince Harry likewise spoke about "the risk of complacency", warning that "HIV remains among the most pressing and urgent of global challenges". In the last year, he said, "1.1 million people died of AIDS, and 2.1 million were infected".
He follows in the footsteps of his mother Princess Diana, who was a fierce advocate for HIV awareness and support.
Harry was also in the news recently for getting a bioLytical INSTI HIV test and broadcasting the results live on social media.
