Mr. Smith caught up with Hot Press ahead of his band's Olympia show.
Four years on from the release of In This Light And On This Evening, Editors have returned with new album The Weight Of Your Love. And boy, has a lot happened in the interim.
Having been to the brink and back, losing original guitarist Chris Urbanowicz over 'creative differences' and adding two new members, today lead singer Tom Smith admits that it feels like a completely new band.
"Re-energised" on the new record and in the midst of taking it around Europe, they stopped off in Dublin for an Olympia show. But before that, Smith took time out backstage for an in-depth chinwag.
The singer opened up about the turbulent past few years, interacting with fans, getting star-struck by REM, what it's like to be a touring parent (his kids have plenty of road experience already, thanks to his wife Edith Bowman's DJing) and praised Russell Brand for his controversial speech at the recent GQ Awards and stance on the pointless nature of voting. Oh, and he's a Gunner, so we wrapped up with his hopes for Arsenal this season...
