Ed Sheeran forced to explain what a loop pedal is after mass confusion on Twitter
He may not be everyone's favourite singer, but EdSheeran faced an unnecessary amount of hate for his Glastonbury performance on Sunday, with people falsely claiming that the singer was using a "backing track" in his songs.
As far as music technology goes, loop pedals are far from new. They've been the friend of solo performers for years and instrumental in helping artists experiment and layer their sounds. But it seemed that a certain contingency of Twitter - who had apparently not yet grasped the mechanics of the loop pedal - wanted to claim that the singer was "lip-syncing" and not playing his instruments.
While many fans rushed to defend the singer, Sheeran himself tweeted after his set to clear things up:
Never thought I'd have to explain it, but everything I do in my live show is live, it's a loop station, not a backing track. Please google x

He then added, "Anyway, great night, great atmosphere, family, friends, fun. Love you all x"
Did Ed Sheeran just mime? Guitar playing while he adjusted his mic. #Glastonbury #AirGuitar

Am I right to say, Ed Sheeran isn't actually playing that guitar and the sound is in the backing track ??? #Glastonbury #Glastonbury2017
