Having scooped the prize at the Irish final, Dublin's Delorentos were named overall winners in London last week
There was much quaffing of champagne in the Delerentos camp on Thursday night as the angular Dublin rockers won the UK and Irish final of the National Student Music Awards.
Their prize for doing so comprises of recording time in the BBC’s Maida Vale studio, additional production and mastering at Abbey Road, a one-off single deal with the American Blood label and the chance to cosy up to Kat on CD:UK.
According to our man at the University of London Union free bar, Steve Cummins: “They were easily the best band of the night, and got a really good response from the 400 students in the crowd. More importantly, they impressed the A&R people from Island and Sanctuary who were there to see them. Also checking them out were the Manic Street Preachers’ manager, Martin Hall, and the excellently named lawyer James Stalin who’s involved with Radiohead, Oasis and Mullingar’s very own The Blizzards.

There was also a TG4 crew filming proceedings, so keep an eye out for that.”
