Buffalo Sunn discuss a change of name and sound
The Dublin six-piece talk their new lineup, new album and moving on from Ireland.
By The Ocean By The Sea is out now under the Buffalo Sunn moniker, but just two years back, the band were called Sweet Jane and had started work on their second album.
"It was a fucking nightmare. As soon as we began, it started to fall apart," says frontman Daniel Paxton.
The boys speak on the factors leading up to Sweet Jane's demise and, in turn, Buffalo Sunn's inception.
"We said, 'Hang on, why don't we just do it this way?' We decided that was it; we were going to change the name, and leave behind the rest of it. That was the birth of Buffalo Sunn."
Having found their footing here, the band are gaining traction outside Ireland's borders. They chat to us about making a name within the country, international success and individuality.
"I don't think we necessarily share much with anyone around," says Paxton. "We're lone wolves, I suppose! We'll just carry on doing what we do, because it's easier than doing something to suit somebody else."
Find out how Buffalo Sunn came to be and what their future holds in the new Hot Press, out now.
