The project is adapted from her novel I Wished For You
After the success of her bestselling novel I Wished for You, Amy Huberman has announced she's finished its screen adaptation.
Bolt is now ready to be pitched to directors, while it will be produced by the Irish company Treasure Entertainment, who were behind another comedy in which Huberman starred, The Stag.
Released in 2012, I Wished for You is the story of Grace, whose placid relationship with Robbie goes horribly awry as she realises that maybe it isn’t the ‘happy-ever-after’ she had envisioned.
Speaking of the adaptation, she has admitted that it was quite a pressurised process. “We have put so much energy and resources into it, but it’s been fun – as well as a massive amount of stress,” she tells the Herald. “Writing a script is very different to writing a book. The book is a tangible thing; you know it will be out in six months.”
Since first grabbing public attention through her recurring role on RTÉ’s The Clinic, Huberman’s career has gone from strength to strength; landing a role on Comedy Central’s Threesome, scribing two bestselling books and launching a footwear collection. And, of course, somewhere in the middle she managed to find time to become half of one of Ireland's best loved couples, after wedding rugby legend Brian O’Driscoll.
Fingers are firmly crossed that the film, which has already been allocated €20,000 from the Irish Film Board and has a budget of €2 million, will join the likes of Brooklyn and the upcoming Sing Street in terms of success but Huberman isn’t getting ahead of herself. “As an actress I’m used to things not working out. It might happen, it might not, but writing a screenplay is something I always thought I’d do.”
