The songstress has been quite vocal in the past about her dislike of streaming music services.
So it may come as a surprise that she is now allowing her award-lauded album 25 to stream on Spotify.
Adele's gripe against the likes of Spotify comes from a moral place as opposed to an income issue, selling albums is Adele's forte. Like Taylor Swift, Adele has refused to give her albums to the like of Tidal, Apple Music and Spotify. She spoke to Time magazine about her dislike of the service; "I don’t use streaming. I buy my music. I download it, and I buy a physical [copy] just to make up for the fact that someone else somewhere isn’t." In the modern-day industry it can be extremely hard to sell albums off the shelves but Adele's power is such that 25 sold 20 million copies worldwide. Her singles have appeared on these streaming websites and an indication of her listenership is 'Hello' has been Spotify streamed over 536 million times.
The Spotify 25 release comes a mere two days before Adele headlines Glastonbury festival. Subscribers in all territories will be able to stream 25. The album will appear in full on the streaming website on Friday 24 at midnight.
So Spotify users, get ready to sing your lungs out to Adele ballads.
