It's obvious that his genius transcended generations...
The tributes to country great Glen Campbell have been pouring in overnight.
"I owe him everything I am, and everything I ever will be," says his daughter, Ashley, who toured with her dad in recent years. "He will be remembered so well and with so much love."
Reacting to the news within minutes, old friend Brian Wilson reflected: "I'm very broken up to hear about my friend Glen Campbell. An incredible musician and an even better person. I'm at a loss. Love & Mercy."
"Thank you Glen Campbell for the artistry, grace & class you brought to country music," wrote latter day Nashville superstar, Brad Paisley. "You were a shining light in so many ways."
In a video tribute, Dolly Parton proffered: "Glen Campbell was special because he was so gifted. Glen is one of the greatest voices there ever was in the business. And he was one of the greatest musicians. He was a wonderful session musician as well, a lot of people don't realise that. But he could play anything and he could play it really well. So he was just extremely talented."
Tom Dunne, whose band Something Happens are very partial to a bit of 'Rhinestone Cowboy', says: "Sad to hear, great guitarist and singer of some of the greatest songs of all time. Interviewed Glen Twice, once after Woodstock 2. He asked me, 'Did you see that violence? That was the Devil doing his work in this world."
Ringo Starr wrote: "God bless and peace and love to Glen Campbell. Thanks for the music. The real Rhinestone Cowboy and love to all his family."
Echoing those sentiments, Eagle Joe Walsh said: "Sad to hear Glen Campbell passed. He was a GREAT guitar player, and a great person. Rest in peace my friend."
That his genius transcended generations was evident from Lenny Kravitz messaging: "Besides being an amazing solo artist, Glen Campbell was also a genius studio musician, as part of the Wrecking Crew, playing on recordings from The Beach Boys to Frank Sinatra. He was pure talent, heart, and courage. Rest In Peace brother. You brought us a lot of joy."
