U2 3D concert film to get cinema screenings
3D-equipped cinemas are to show the new U2 concert film 'U2 3D' beginning on February 22.
The 84-minute film was captured when the band played Buenos Aires in Argentina as part of their last world tour. Nine high-tech digital 3D cameras, advanced digital 3D imagery and surround sound were used to capture the onstage performance.
The film was directed by the artist and sculptor Catherine Owens, who has been providing visual content to the band over the past 15 years.
Following its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in the US on January 19, the movie is set to be screened at four cineplexes in Ireland: movies@Dundrum, movies@Swords and Cineworld in Parnell Street in Dublin, as well as the SGC complex in Dungarvan, Co Waterford. Viewers will don special 3D glasses to get the full visual effect of the movie.
