The record was beaten last night in Brazil.
U2’s 360 has overtaken the Rolling Stones’ A Bigger Bang as the biggest grossing rock tour of all-time.
According to Billboard magazine, Bono and the boys’ April 10 show in Sao Paulo took them past the $558 million mark, which the Stones set in 2005-07.
By the time 360 finishes up in Moncton, New Brunswick on July 30, it will have shifted seven million tickets for 110 shows with a total gross of around $700 million.
Sunday’s gig was notable for ‘Zooropa’ getting its first live airing since August 12 1993 – thanks to the always brilliant U2tours.com for the stats – and ‘Out Of Control’ returning to the set after a five-year absence.
The most poignant moment of the night was when Bono dedicated ‘Moment Of Surrender’ to the families mourning the death of 12 children in a Rio De Janeiro high school shooting incident last Thursday.
