To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the release of The Doors debut album today, the band has announced a deluxe edition of their records.
The announcement coincides with the news that today - January 4 - will officially be declared the "Day of The Doors" in their native Los Angeles.
The Doors: 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition contains 3CD/LP collection: a remastered version of the album’s original stereo mix, available on CD for the first time in a decade and remastered for the first time in nearly 30 years, an LP-version of the mono mix and the third disc features eight-tracks live performance from The Matrix in San Francisco recorded just weeks after The Doors was released.
Originally released in an inferior sound quality in 2008, the Matrix recordings now hail from the much higher quality and recently rediscovered original tapes from the show.
The collection is set to hit the shelves on March 31 via Rhino Records. It is packaged in a 12 x 12 hardcover book, has detailed liner notes by esteemed rock journalist David Fricke and contains a selection of rare and previously unseen photos. The Doors: 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition will be available for a list price of $64.98 and in addition, the music will also be available digitally.
