Gavin DeGraw - Gavin DeGraw
Certain artists are blessed with the ability to say something poignant and meaningful with their music. On the evidence of this eopnymous record, Gavin DeGraw is not one of them.
In 2003, the upstate New Yorker shot to fame when his hit ‘I Don’t Want To Be’ was chosen as the theme for teen drama series One Tree Hill. Chariot (his debut) went platinum and DeGraw’s fans have been anticipating his follow up ever since.
Unfortunately his new release has about as much imagination and inspiration as its title. The first striking thing is that the 31-year-old has failed to live up to the almost impossible expectation that he would pull something better than ‘I Don’t Want To Be’ out of one of the many hats he sports in the art work. This is a collection of mediocre pop numbers which blur into one another.
So what’s good about Gavin DeGraw? New single ‘In Love With A Girl’ is a catchy love song that will excite fans and as it’s track number one, its heavy rock guitars leave you thinking there is potential here and eagerly waiting for this album to take off. But alas it never really does.
Key Track: ‘In Love With A Girl’
