Glimpses of Spider Man, Metallica, Alan Partridge and the new Tarantino flick are just a click away...
It may be the morning after the horrible football night before, but there’s loads of cinematic cheer to be had in this week’s Movies Monday.
Kicking us off in considerable style is the latest trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man, the Spidey prequel, which hits screens here on July 3, looks phenomenal and includes Martin Sheen, Rhys Ifans, Emma Stone, Denis Leary and Andrew Garfield among its all-star cast.
“The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker, an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben and Aunt May,” reads the blurb. “Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding the way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy, and together, they struggle with love, commitment and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents’ disappearance – leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors, his father’s former partner.”

Movies Monday is very much liking the look of Mission To Lars, the touching story of chronically ill Metallica fan Tom Spicer whose dream is to meet Mr. Ulrich.
“His siblings promise to make it happen, with hopes of good times and bonding,” reads the synopsis. “But what starts out a dream soon becomes a nightmare as Tom’s disabilities, a dysfunctional family, and heavy metal’s labyrinthine backstage world thwart the mission at every turn. But as they get closer to Lars, Tom the man starts to shine.”

The makers of the new Bond movie, Skyfall, have just unleashed a new “super-trailer”, which makes us even more impatient to see the latest installment in the greatest action movie franchise… ever!
Blaxsploitation meets Blazing Saddles in Django Unchained, the Tarantino-directed western romp, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx, Samuel L. Jackson, RZA and a back from the Hollywood dead Don Johnson.
“Set in the South two years before the Civil War, Django Unchained stars Jamie Foxx as Django, a slave whose brutal history with his former owners lands him face-to-face with German-born bounty hunter Dr. King Schultz,” we’re told. “Schultz is on the trail of the murderous Brittle brothers, and only Django can lead him to his bounty. The unorthodox Schultz acquires Django with a promise to free him upon the capture of the Brittles – dead or alive.
“Success leads Schultz to free Django, though the two men choose not to go their separate ways. Instead, Schultz seeks out the South’s most wanted criminals with Django by his side. Honing vital hunting skills, Django remains focused on one goal: finding and rescuing Broomhilda, the wife he lost to the slave trade long ago.”
The reviews have all been positive for Hick Movie Trailer Red Band, a violent road trip of a yarn, which will appeal to all No Country For Old Men fans. It’s guaranteed to make a huge star out of Chloe Grace Moretz as the jailbait 13-year-old Nebraska girl who runs away to Vegas.
Hitting screens here on June 22 is Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, a Tim Burton flick that shockingly has no room for Helena Bonham Carter.
We were to put it mildly sceptical, but advance reviews and this new trailer suggest we’re in for a kitsch horror treat.
Next we go behind the scenes on the plot where The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is being assembled. It’s not in cinemas till December, so this is the chance to steal the march on your movie-loving mates.
Bringing this week’s Movies Monday to a dramatic conclusion is Gangster Squad, “a chronicle of the LAPD’s fight to keep East Coast Mafia-types out of Los Angeles in the 1940s and 50s.”
With Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn and Nick Nolte all featuring, we have extremely high hopes for the Ruben Fleischer-directed romp whose release date has yet to be confirmed.
