The Greatest Event
One of Wexford's leading lights reveals his long-awaited swoonsome debut
If it is heart-felt folk songs you’re after, look no further. The Greatest Event by the Man Whom (AKA Wexford musician Ian Doyle) manages to recall the likes of Mumford & Sons at their most reflective and Sufjan Stevens at his most vital whilst retaining a unique identity. It is some achievement when you think about it. Most of the ten track debut swoons and sways with the best of them, but Doyle’s music really soars when he’s taking chances. In particular, the horn-led ‘Sing Till There’s No Song Left’ and the country-fied ‘Leavin This Town’ help mark out the tunesmith as a talent worth keeping an eye on.
