Sleepers
Shades of Tired Pony on this Gemma Hayes-endorsed debut.
Monorail initially started out life as a solo project for Co. Tipperary native Seamus Hennessy, but over time it developed into a full blown band and Sleepers is their debut album. A starry-eyed effort, their alt-country, folk and bluegrass flourishes remind this reviewer a little of Gary Lightbody’s Tired Pony project from last year: it’s a sweet-sounding record that’s benefits from a warm, live sounding production and an honest vocal delivery. When Gemma Hayes turns up to lend her honeyed vocals to ‘Hearts Of Gold’, Monorail are unstoppable. If they can craft more songs like this in the future then they’ll be a very interesting prospect indeed.
