Singer-songwriter to play Whelan's
Singer-songwriter Kim Churchill is coming to Whelan’s on 25 November. The Aussie-artist will release his new album, Weight_Falls, late this August before making his way across Australia and the UK/EU.
Weight_Falls was created after a bold decision by Churchill to scrap the record he had been working on for 18 months. The album he had made was all set to be released, when Churchill decided something was missing. He explains, “I worked really hard on the follow-up record for a long time and it sounded good. But some very subtle layer of my consciousness was saying to me, ‘It’s not all that inspiring.’”
In just one week, Churchill completely revamped the album, even learning production skills to get everything done on time. The obstacles he faced ended up shaping the album for the better. “I can’t play bass so I was forced to use these really odd Moog bass samples and I couldn't tap out any proper bass part, so I was just holding long bass notes,” he explains. “That started to create an almost Bristol trip-hop quality.”
