HARDCORE PUNKS MORPH INTO A DIFFERENT KIND OF ANIMAL
The music on the fourth album by American punks Ceremony shouldn’t really come as a surprise to anyone. The last few years saw them grow increasingly fed up with their subtle as a sledge-hammer hardcore style and also sign to the relatively major label of Matador, so we kinda expected the five-piece to have a bit of a rethink. Having said that, the now-snotty vocal style of Ross Farrar and the swaggering riffs of ‘Quarantine’ will definitely raise more than a few eyebrows (whilst wilting some Mohawks too). Personally I’m not complaining, as the band have never sounded as vital. Zoo opens up new and exciting avenues for Ceremony to explore over the years to come. Bring it on.
