Ex-self-confessed Antichrist makes diabolically good new LP
The weird warlord of avant-garde rock, Bobby Conn, has always provided good value for money. With Macaroni, the New Yorker proves he’s still as sharp as ever. A sprawling cheese-fest that incorporates funk, soul, punk, psychedelia, pop and more into hugely entertaining soundscapes, the record sees the wizard of odd in world-beating form. For me, the bombastic ‘Can’t Stop The War’ and the riff-laden ‘Greed’ represent some of the best material he’s ever recorded. Aided and abetted as ever by his wife and electric violin player Monica Boubou, the former self-styled Antichrist has created a grandiose sci-fi opera that will appeal to both fans and newcomers alike. Readers who fancy a walk on the weird side should start here.
