Having been ejected from Twitter following a blast at Zayne Malik, Azealia Banks is feeling isolated – and misunderstood by the music industry...
She may have rubber more that a few people the wrong way, but Azealia Banks remains a Hot Press favourite.
However, the 25 year-old rapper feels less than fully appreciated by the business as a whole. In an Instagram post, she makes a plaintive appeal for greater understanding complaining that she has been "shoved into a corner and punished" for her music.
That there is substance to the complaint can hardly be disputed. Banks was suspended from Twitter in May of this year, following a Twitter blast at the former One Direction star Zayn Malik which was considered racist by some. Banks claimed at the time that Malik had stolen her ideas in the video for his song Like I Would.
In addition to being dumped unceremoniously off Twitter – a rare status indeed – Azaalia was also pushed off the bill at London's Born & Bred Festival. Reports have suggested that she is being actively investigated by the Home Office over her Mathelik tweets, as a result of which she could be barred from entering the UK.
The Instagram post suggests that Banks is feeling the weight of her troubles with the world creatively as well as personally, casting doubt over whether she will finish her second studio album, provisionally titled Fantasea II: The Second Wave.

"I feel really sad and uninspired,” she said. "I’m having trouble mustering up enough smiles and enthusiasm to finish Fantasea 2. I feel deeply misunderstood. I feel cheated, I feel stolen from."
Banks has never been short of controversial opinions. But the post reveals that she is genuinely engaged with the idea of trying to make the world a better place – and feels that she is being deliberately misrepresented.
"I feel though as I’ve made and am making such huge contributions to the times, as far as music and the national conversation go,” she continued, "only to be shoved into a corner and punished while I watch my ideas and insight get paraphrased and repackaged by everyone."
Banks recently stated that she will be voting for Donald Trump because he's "evil like America is evil.” It is an example of where the lines between satire and intent may not be entirely clear. However, what is clear is that she has no time for Trump; but also that she feels completely out of sync with modern America. “In order for America to keep up with itself it needs him.,” she said.
Lots of people may have a sneaking feeling that they know exactly what she means...
