Olaf Tyaransen takes Journalist of the Year and Hot Press also wins Cover of the Year.
It was a big evening for Hot Press last night, as the publication walked away with three gongs at the Irish Magazine Awards.
At a gala event held in Dublin's Marker Hotel, a hip and happening new destination in the city, hotpress.com won the award for Digital Product of the Year, beating off a host of websites and apps, in what is an increasingly vital and competitive category.
Meanwhile, Olaf Tyaransen was named Journalist Of The Year, fending off competition that included fellow HP scribe Adrienne Murphy, for her superb series on the scandal of mandatory fluoridation of the water supply in Ireland, and Brenda Power of Image magazine and the Sunday Times. The goodwill flowed in Olaf's direction afterwards. Among many more, Newstalk's Norah Casey tweeted her support: "Congrats @OlafTyaransen winner of Journalist of the Year @hotpress - well deserved, long overdue."
The Hot Press design team were also honoured, walking away with the award for Cover Of The Year. The citation was for our very fine pre-Electric Picnic issue, with headliners Arctic Monkeys on the cover.

"Anyone who visits or uses hotpress.com regularly will know the amount of hard work and graft that goes into keeping it constantly fresh and alive," Hot Press digital director Duan Stokes said. "It is great to have this recognised by the judges – so this is a real victory for the entire Hot Press team. However, we have even bigger plans to further enhance the offering over the coming months – so watch this space."
The Irish Magazine Awards are presented annually by Magazines Ireland. The prestigious title of Publishers of the Year went to Image Publications, who recently launched a new magazine aimed at the wedding market, Bash!
