Shane gives spinning a spin
Shane MacGowan, currently wheelchair-bound following a hip injury, plays a stormer at Death Disco

Shane MacGowan took a break from his recent live antics with The Popes to join BP Fallon at Eamonn Dorans for a DJ set.
Arriving on-stage in his wheel-chair the singer proceeded to play for over two hours opening with The Skatalites' reggae classic ‘Phoenix City’ over which Shane toasted into the mic.
The eclectic set illustrated his considerable musical knowledge and included songs from The Sex Pistols, Eddie Cochran, Junior Parker, Led Zeppelin and Bob Dylan.
Although patently enjoying his pints and endless cigarettes MacGowan displayed none of the symptoms that characterised his recent Olympia appearance with The Popes when a fit of vomiting prompted a discussion on national radio concerning his health. Among those who phoned expressing their concern, love and support for Shane was his long-time friend Sinead O’Connor. It is believed that Shane is currently convalescing from the hip injury which has confined him to a wheelchair at Sinead’s Dublin home.
His set at Death Disco lasted into the early hours and a delighted BP Fallon commented: "It was genuinely an honour to have Shane especially since his set was so brilliant. To hear him singing with Elvis on ‘I Was The One’ is something I'll always remember with great warmth, a very special moment. As well as being uniquely gifted, Shane's a lovely man - we're damn lucky to have him around."
Death Disco 12 on Friday, September 27 will feature co-founder and Poptones boss Alan McGee on deck detail. A previous booking will mean that the event will take place in Whelans for one week only before returning to its traditional home, Eamon Dorans, for DD13.
