Modern guitar wizard, Joe Bonamassa is set to play Rory Gallagher's legendary Fender Stratocaster at his London show tonight, Hot Press has learned. The gig takes place at the HMV Hammersxmith Apollo.
Bonamassa is a huge admirer of the Irish guitar hero. He did a cover version of 'Cradle Rock' on his debut album A New Day Yesterday, released in 2000.
The iconic guitar was delivered to the venue this afternoon by Rory's brother Donal Gallagher. Re-strung and re-tuned, it is now ready for rock'n'roll action. The link between Bonamassa and Donal was forged by nu-folk YouTube sensation, the Aberdeen born Sandi Thom, who is Bonamassa's girlfriend.
The acclaimed New York born guitarist plans to open his set tonight with a special tribute to Rory – beginning a run of three Rory songs, with his version of 'Cradle Rock'. He is also likely to cover 'I Wonder Who', as part of the three-song opening salvo.

Bonamassa also plays the HMV Hammersxmith Apollo tomorrow night, SAturday October 22.
