"It's about feeling free to be who you are and not having to hide it for some stupid, hateful reasons," Tim Kingsbury says of 'We Exist'.
In the new Hot Press, Arcade Fire's bassist (and 'bit of plenty else-ist') Tim Kingsbury chats to John Walshe about their Glastonbury headliner and how Reflektor track 'We Exist' has taken on a life of its own.
"Win [Butler] came up with the lyrics for that song in Jamaica. There are laws there against being homosexual. I don't know if it's become an anthem or anything: that's sort of where the song comes from. It's about feeling free to be who you are and not having to hide it for some stupid, hateful reason."
Reflecting on Glasto, Kingsbury admits that while it was a 'pinch yourself' moment: "For me, the basic fact I'm playing music and making a living at it… I can't comprehend that!"
