MCD have spoken of being “devastated” by the cancellation of Prince’s Croke Park headliner, and confirmed that booking fees will be included in ticket refunds, which will be available from 9am on Friday June 13.
The promoters also say that 33,000 emails have been sent to the would-be gig-goers on their database, with full-page adverts being taken out in tomorrow’s newspapers to make other people aware of the no-show.
Hot Press understands that the promoters found out Prince wouldn’t be traveling to Dublin late on Monday night.
55,000 tickets had been sold for the 62,000 capacity gig, which received its licence from Dublin Corporation last Friday.
Contrary to reports that have circulated elsewhere, there were no problems with the stage specifications - Prince was bringing his own - or the singer’s health, which was robust enough for him to play a launch party for his 21 Nights picture book in Los Angeles on June 2. The 50-year-old performed for an hour-and-a-quarter to a crowd that included Olivia Newton-John, P. Diddy, Sylvester Stallone and Dr. Phil.
The mood on Prince web forums like Prince.Org and Housequake.Com is one of both disappointment and anger that neither Prince nor his management have given a full explanation for the Croke Park cancellation.
Many were planning to travel from Europe and North America, and are now left with worthless air tickets.
