The soundtrack to Louis Leterrier’s movie Danny The Dog (a martial arts thriller starring Bob Hoskins, Morgan Freeman and Jet Li), this is more of an interesting side project than a real album. Think Passengers, only without any lyrics.
Yes, I know what you’re thinking. This is a new Massive Attack record but, at the same time, it isn’t really. The soundtrack to Louis Leterrier’s movie Danny The Dog (a martial arts thriller starring Bob Hoskins, Morgan Freeman and Jet Li), this is more of an interesting side project than a real album. Think Passengers, only without any lyrics.
The band were approached personally by Luc Besson and the film’s director to record a soundtrack which captured both the fast-paced action and reflective sadness of the film. What they’ve come up with is 21 pieces of music that alternate between intense electronica with crashing crescendos to slow and spaced-out ambient mood pieces. It’s all instrumental and really best listened to as a complete work (it’s 52 minutes long).
This reviewer is a lover of instrumental soundtracks and thoroughly enjoyed it as a listening experience, but fans of the band might be disappointed. Ultimately, it’s more of a stealth mission than a massive attack.
