The Irish Film & Television Academy is to present the veteran broadcaster with the award at the IFTA Gala Television Awards.
Pat follows in the footsteps of previous Academy Lifetime recipients such as Gay Byrne, President Michel D. Higgins, Liam Neeson, and Brendan O’Carroll. He has been a regular face in Irish broadcasting for almost five decades and is noted for his knowledge and understanding of a wide range of matters which make him one of the most authoritative voices in matters to do with current affairs. He is also also noted for his straight-talking style.
From cutting-edge current affairs programmes such as ‘The Frontline’ and ‘Today Tonight’, to light entertainment and talk shows such as ‘Kenny Live’ and the hosting of legendary ‘The Late Late Show’ for 10 years, Kenny has come to be seen as one of the nation's most diverse broadcasters.
Speaking about the award, Kenny said: “I am truly honoured to receive this Award from the Irish Academy; to be recognised by my peers in this way, and to follow in the footsteps of such an illustrious group of people who have previously received this Award is an absolute honour for me. I am humbled to be acknowledged by the Academy alongside broadcasters such a Gay Byrne and Cathal O’Shannon, who paved the way for broadcasters such as myself. Thank you IFTA."
