David Chase and Steve Van Zandt have made some beautiful music – and a film – together
Talking recently to Hot Press, Steve Van Zandt was cockahoop about his role as music consultant on Sopranos man David Chase’s first foray into cinema, Not Fade Away.
“It’ll be the least money Paramount spend on a movie all year – it’s on their sort of independent label, Vantage – but the story of a New Jersey group trying to make it just as the British invasion hits is really a wonderful one,” he enthuses. “Jimmy Gandolfini’s playing one of the kid’s fathers so there were some old friends on the set. The fun I had was creating the band’s sound from 1962 to ’68. I got my friend Andy Babiuk who wrote the definitive Beatles Gear book in – he’s got a Stones one coming out soon, which is going to be amazing – to help me.”
Miami Steve and Chase joined forces recently for a Not Fade Away panel discussion that can be seen at youtube.com/watch?v=hJ7Wl0P4akE while the official site resides at notfadeawaymovie.com.

With the Presidential election just days away, we thought you’d appreciate the Bad Lip Reading Of The First 2012 debate, which has gone viral at youtube.com/watch?v=QlwilbVYvUg and the faux but very funny twitter.com/PaulRyanGosling, which makes you fear for the good ol’ US of A if the Republican Party’s answer to Atilla The Hun gets in on the Vice-Presidential ticket.
Which just leaves time for quick visits to newyorker.com/fiction/features/2012/10/29/121029fi_fiction_barry (Caught In The Net’s old pal Kevin Barry writes again for the New Yorker); Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon flogs off her clothes (collectorsweekly.com/articles/kim-gordons-clothing-sale); Jerry Sadowitz had it right about Jimmy Savile years ago (soundcloud.com/phreakdown/jimmy-saville-1988) and youtube.com/watch?v=JzAldD6t-ps (stranger than fiction Hawkwind documentary).
