Sunday's chatter: a full report

The sun shone on our Sunday Chatroom, with talkative adventures aplenty and guests The Flaws, Gemma Hayes, Mark Geary, Hadouken, Foals, The Roots, Michael Franti and more!

Our last day in the Chatroom at Electric Picnic proved to be the busiest, as the sunshine brought eager listeners and a jam-packed line-up of stellar acts came to meet excited fans.

It's a heck of a job to compile a day of chat into a space this small – but we do love a challenge, so here goes:

Hadouken started us off on Sunday, telling tales of their adventures in the New Rave world, and were followed closely by The Flaws, who whetted appetites for their forthcoming album and Sept/Oct tour with a few new songs, along with old favourites like '1981'.

Mr Mark Geary, was along next; he filled us in on his wonderful new album Opium, his forays into film scoring, and meeting director David Cronenberg. He was then joined by Dublin singer Ann Scott, and we were treated to a short (but sweet!) acoustic set.

Michael Franti drew a huge crowd in the late afternoon, giving an honest and open interview which led Hot Press' Paul Nolan to declare that he was the best interviewee the Chatroom had ever seen. Stay tuned for the live video footage and you can see for yourselves!

Foals called in little later, talking about their festival season so far. They spoke candidly about how themselves and the Kaiser Chiefs broke up a fight when Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke was attacked – allegedly by members of John Lydon's entourage – at the Summercase festival in Barcelona last July. The lads mentioned that their dressing rooms were close to those of the Sex Pistols, and when asked if they'd be giving Lydon a wide berth, deadpanned that he probably didn't know who they were!

Joe Rooney lightened the mood with a host of comedy guests featuring the cream of Ireland's rising comedy talent. The bantertastic chat included reminiscing about his Father Ted experience and a lot of festival gossip from our noisy panel!

Gemma Hayes was in fine form, and rocked the tent in a rather quiet way with a story or two and a bit of a song to round things off.

Our last guest of the day, The Roots drummer ?uestlove, made a big entrance with his own personal film crew, and talked to Stuart Clark about the state of rap today, his ongoing campaigning for Barack Obama, plotting to work with Amy Winehouse and jamming round Prince's with Stevie Wonder. The multi-talented DJ/producer also told how he was in close contact with friend Jay-Z ahead of his Glastonbury set, but – as a self-confessed gossip – he wasn't let in on the secret about Jay's 'Wonderwall' opener.

All of the above was duly captured on film, and will be appearing on hotpress.com in the coming weeks, so keep your eyes peeled!
