Try as hard as they might, it was inevitable that Ben Affleck's Batman cameo in Suicide Squad would leak into public knowledge.
However, director and writer David Ayer is promising that we'll be witnessing a very different Batman to the one we've grown to love and worship over the years.
Although we know he will make an appearance, we're not sure in what capacity but Ayer is teasing fans along with some very significant details. Speaking to Collider, Ayer noted "All the Batman movies have been from Batman's point of view. He's the good guy. He's the hero of his own movie in all the movies we've seen.If you look at what Bruce Wayne has done in creating the Batman persona, his idea was to terrorise criminals. It's sort of psychological warfare against criminals."
So how does it feel to have the Batman come at you as the bad guy?; "This wraith that comes in the night and attacks and pulls criminals from society," Ayer explains, "For the first time, we're seeing Batman from the point of view of the criminals and he's freaking scary."
Photos have been leaked online of Affleck on set and fans have been wracking their brains over possibly theories on his involvement in Suicide Squad. Ayer insists though that any photos that have been leaked online are completely out of context and we are guaranteed a surprise; "For me it's a lot of fun just to see how people try and assemble these pieces because in their minds, they're a much larger piece of the film than they're actually saying. But it takes days and days to shoot a scene so it's how does all this fit together? That's the big surprise."
Can it please be August 5 already when Suicide Squad hits cinemas? Please?
