Forget the Oscars, what people really want to know are the results of the 2014 Hotties, as voted for online by tens of thousands of discerning Hot Press readers.
Numbers crunched, it’s The Strypes who fend off stiff competition from the likes of The Coronas, Bell X1, Kodaline and The Script to bag themselves ‘Best Group’ Gold.
There's also champagne corks popping aplenty over at Kodaline HQ with ‘High Hopes’ adjudged to be ‘Best Track’ and the collection its lifted from, In A Perfect World, winning both ‘Best Album’ and ‘Best Debut Album’.
The ‘Best Female’ and ‘Best Male’ accolades go respectively to Lisa Hannigan and Villagers mainman Conor O’Brien; Hozier is ‘Most Promising Artist’; Best Live Act’ is bestowed on The Script; Bell X1’s Paul Noonan is acknowledged as the country’s ‘Best Songwriter’; Le Galaxie have a ‘Best Dance/Electronic’ gong to stick on their mantlepiece and Andrew Maxwell is ‘Best Comedian’.
On the broadcasting front, 2fm’s Jenny Greene is ‘Best Radio DJ’ and Love/Hate ‘Best TV Programme’, which might surprise and/or annoy the legions of Breaking Bad fans out there
Your ‘Love Of The Year’ is Electric Picnic, which even by its own high standards was outrageous amounts of fun in 2013, while Miley Cyrus walks away – perhaps unhappily so – with ‘Loathe Of The Year’.
Massive thanks to all of those who voted in the 2014 Hotties, which are the subject of their own [link]www.hotpress.com/hotpressreaderspoll2014[/link] website, which includes a full list of the Silver and Bronze runners-up and the other nominees who get their own ‘thank you’ for making it such an awesome musical 12 months.
